Rapoo E6700 Bluetooth Touch Keyboard

While you can use E6700 keyboard in a desktop setting, it’s really meant for Bluetooth-enabled devices like tablets and smartphones. The device is also meant for Windows, providing keyboard shortcuts to the browser, the Charms bar, Search, volume control and whatnot. However, you can use this device on Android and iOS devices.

The E6700 is an ideal input device for use with a home theater PC (HTPC). Its built-in touch pad allows for full control of Windows without a separate mouse, and therefore is great for surfing or media-watching from the couch. That said, the keyboard portion is only good for occasional use, not extensive typing.

The touch pad on this device is the mostly blank area at the right. It works well and gives your finger a smooth tracking feel on its surface. It doesn’t have physically clickable mouse buttons, and the pad itself does not depress, but its sensor detects left- and right-clicks in the lower portion of the pad, delineated by the fine vertical bar you see. It works in the same way a laptop touch pad does. It can also detect clicks in the main pad area.

Ultra-slim design with metal body

The keys on the E6700 are arranged in a mostly typical desktop keyboard layout. It’s a six-row keyboard, measuring 13 inches long, 4 inches front to back, and just 0.6 inch thick. The main body is really just a flat, thin pad, like a giant Hershey’s chocolate bar. It’s built upon a wafer-thin metal body that covered by small keys. (The main letter keys measure about a quarter of an inch square.) They use a form of scissor-switch mechanism underneath, with a mechanical “X”-shaped structure that distributes the pressure across the surface of the key, so when you press one, it goes down evenly.

They’re not exactly high-grade mechanical keys, and they don’t press down all that far. And they’re not true scissor switches that use springs. But they don’t feel mushy, and they have a good bit more “snap” than the keys on your average membrane or rubber-dome keyboard.

The E6700 is rechargeable via its micro-USB connection, and the battery is full sealed-in and internal. However, one missed opportunity here is that the micro-USB connection and cable are solely for recharging the power.
